Vistabel® (botulinum toxin type A - branded Botox® Cosmetic in the US) is a widely known and highly used procedure used to treat glabellar lines. Vistabel® has been used around the world for over a period of ten years; it was first used to treat perspiration problems in individuals under the brand name Botox®. Botox® for cosmetic use is marketed in the UK under the brand name Vistabel® and is the first and only brand of botulinum toxin type A licensed for cosmetic use in the UK.
Researchers discovered in the 1950s that injecting overactive muscles with minute quantities of botulinum toxin type A decreased muscle activity by blocking the release of acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction, thereby rendering the muscle unable to contract for a period of 4 to 6 months.
Cosmetically desirable effects of Botox® were quickly discovered thereafter when the frown lines between the eyebrows were observed to soften following treatment for eye muscle disorders, leading to clinical trials and subsequent FDA approval for cosmetic use in the US in April 2002. As of 2006, Botox® / Vistabel® injection is the most common cosmetic operation in the United States.
The beauty of a Vistabel® treatment is that it's a simple, 10-minute, non-surgical process. A few tiny injections, and within days there can be a noticeable improvement in the moderate to severe frown lines between the brows that can last up to 4 months. Results may vary. And there's no recovery time. You can even do it on your lunch break.
